RYANAIR OVER THE weekend called for a pre-10am ban on selling alcohol at airports after it was forced to divert an Ibiza-bound flight from Dublin to Paris, due to unruly passengers.
The captain of the flight diverted it after an incident involving the group of up to 20 Irish holidaymakers, who had been drinking at the terminal prior to take off.
One of the passengers speaking yesterday said that reports that his group had caused havoc were “fake news”.
But Ryanair defended the diversion, saying the airline would “not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time”.
The airline said that the incident was the reason for it calling for plans to prohibit the sale of alcohol at airports. Measures suggested by the airline include a two-drink limit per passenger and no alcohol sales before 10am.
But critics have said that this would be punishing all passengers for the actions of a small minority.
