Poll: Will tighter gun laws prevent more shootings in the US?

As the world reacts to the latest mass shooting in America, we ask you whether you believe a tightening of America’s gun laws will make any lasting difference?

AS AMERICA DEALS with yet another gun-related tragedy, there are once again calls for a tighter regulation of the country’s gun laws.

President Obama gave a brief insight into the immense difficulties which would face any attempts to make such a change, when he said that “we’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action,” hinting at the many obstacles which have so far prevented this from happening.

Millions of weapons are legally held in America. With the right to bear arms enshrined in its constitution, and the National Rifle Association (NRA) committed, and funded, to protect it, any changes to America’s current gun laws will be hard fought, and harder won.

This morning, we’re asking whether you believe that tightening America’s gun laws would see a marked decrease in the number of mass shootings it continues to experience?

Poll Results:

No, guns aren't the problem, people are (1895)
Yes, gun laws should be tightened (1604)
I don't know (332)
