Poll: Should ESB workers be barred from striking?

ESB staff have voted in favour of striking over a pensions scheme dispute.

WORKERS AT THE ESB have served strike notice on their employers after discussions with management over a pension scheme failed.

Today, with the threat of a strike looming, Aaron McKenna argues in an Opinion & Insight column that ESB workers should be banned from striking and causing a total or partial power failure.

Only a small number of groups, such as rank and file gardaí, are barred from striking in this country.

McKenna argues that “special arrangements” could be made in the dispute, in order to avoid an electricity strike and its knock-on effects.

We ask: Should ESB workers be barred from striking?
