THERE WILL BE a protest outside the Dáil today against cuts to maternity benefit announced in last week’s budget.

The changes mean that maternity benefit will be standarised at €230 per week for new claimants from January. Currently, it lies between €217 – €262 for women.

The National Women’s Council say that the decision will lead to a “de-facto reduction of €32 per week for the vast majority of women”.
