Poll: Should Ireland be involved in an EU army?

Gerry Adams has said an EU army will eventually be created and that it would threaten Ireland’s neutrality if we were involved in its missions.

SINN FÉIN LEADER Gerry Adams has accused European Union leaders of trying to further militarise the European Union with the aim of eventually creating an “EU army”.

While Ireland has previously participated in “EU Battlegroups” Adams questions the Common Security and Defence Policy’s further militarisation and feared the establishment of an EU-wide army.

Paschal Donohoe, Minister of State for the Taoiseach’s department said anything done in the future will recognise Ireland’s neutrality laid down in the Constitution and the Lisbon treaty.
