Poll shows majority believe recession will stay for three years

Respondents say they don’t want corporate tax rate to be increased, and that there are too many TDs in the Dáil.

A NEW POLL SHOWS THAT the majority of people questioned favour public spending cuts over tax increases in the next Budget.

The MilwardBrown/Lansdowne poll of 1,000 people carried out for the Irish Examiner shows that the majority (76%) said they believe the recession will stay for another three years.

Most people (57%) said they didn’t want Ireland’s corporate tax rate to be increased under any circumstance, while 80% thought not cutting public sector jobs under the Croke Park Agreement was not realistic.

The majority (80%) said there are too many TDs in the Dáil, and 75% say the Seanad should be abolished.

A supplement in today’s Irish Examiner contains a full breakdown of the poll results.
