Poll: Should weekly State pensions be means-tested?

A report from the OECD due out tomorrow reportedly says that the weekly state pension should be means-tested.

A NEW REPORT from an economic body says that weekly State pensions should be means tested.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development review is due out tomorrow and according to the Sunday Times it calls for the weekly state pension to be means tested.

It is asking for this so that the pension is not paid to high-earners.

The review was commissioned by Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton and also says the current state pension scheme in this country is “complex”.

Some may welcome means-testing the state pension, so that those who are wealthier do not get the same amount as those who are less well off. Others may welcome another option, such as a universal basic pension scheme.

Should weekly State pensions be means-tested?
