Poll: Should the Taoiseach bring up human rights abuses during Gulf visit?

Minister Richard Bruton has said the current trade mission to region is not an appropriate time to address the issue.

TAOISEACH ENDA KENNY and Jobs Minister Richard Bruton have faced criticism for not bringing up human rights abuses in Gulf states during their visit to the region.

Minister Bruton said that a trade mission is ‘not the time or place’ to address the topic, adding that it has been raised at EU level.

But Colm O’Gorman of Amnesty International said there are “very, very grave concerns in relation to the treatment of migrant workers” in Qatar.

So far, the trade mission has led to business contacts worth €25 million.

We want to know what  you think: Should the Taoiseach bring up human rights abuses during Gulf visit?
