Post-mortem results on newborn found dead at recycling plant

The post-mortem has revealed that the body found in Scunthorpe was that of a newborn baby boy. On Wednesday a teenage girl came forward, saying she was the child’s mother.

A POSTMORTEM ON the body of a baby found dead at a recycling plant in Scunthorpe in the UK has confirmed that is that that of a newborn boy, but the cause of death remains unknown.

The baby’s body was found by a worker at Bell Waste Control in an industrial estate in the town on Wednesday. This is Scunthorpe reports that a local teenage girl had contacted police, saying she was the baby’s mother. She was admitted to hospital for postnatal care.

A member of staff found the baby’s body, and initially thought it was a doll or toy, according to The Guardian. The worker was sorting through materials for recycling when he discovered the body, and was said to be distressed state and has taken time off work.

The results of the post-mortem have been inconclusive on the cause of the baby’s death, and further tests are to be carried out.

The recycling centre has been checking its records in order to assist with the police investigation and has been identifying the vehicles which were collecting waste earlier in the week.
