POST OFFICES ACROSS the country are facing serious problems.

Declining sales a fewer customers have plunged the postal service into a period of uncertainty.

Post offices across the country have closed in recent years, and there are warnings that more could shut down in the future.

Postmasters went protesting this week to show their frustration at what they see as a failure on the part of An Post and government to modernise.

Wit the rise of email, social welfare payments being paid directly into bank accounts, and other technological advancements, fewer people are going to their local post offices than ever before.

Some postmasters have said that the service will soon die altogether as a result of the loss in business.
