Postmortem on stillborn baby to determine course of Garda investigation

Gardaí attended University Hospital Kerry yesterday evening after a woman was admitted earlier in the day with physical injuries.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING the alleged assault of a woman in her 30s at a house in Co Kerry.

Gardaí attended University Hospital Kerry yesterday evening after a woman was admitted earlier in the day with physical injuries.

A man in his mid-20s was later arrested by gardaí in relation to an alleged assault. He was detained for questioning at Kerry Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He has since been released under the provisions of Section 4. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The local coroner and Office of the State Pathologist were notified following the stillbirth of a baby. The results of the postmortem will determine the course of the Garda investigation into the matter.

Gardaí did not confirm this evening whether the woman who was allegedly assaulted was the mother of the stillborn baby.

Gardaí have said enquiries are ongoing.
