Priest assaulted and locked in bathroom by youths

The PSNI said that the priest had discovered three youths in the office of the Parochial House in Jonesborough, South Armagh.

A PRIEST WAS locked into a bathroom during an incident in South Armagh last night.

The PSNI said that detectives in Newry are investigating an aggravated burglary which occurred at a Parochial House in Jonesborough Village on Wednesday 30 October.

They said that at around 11.30pm, the local priest disturbed three youths in the office of the Parochial House.

The youths assaulted the priest and left him locked in the bathroom of the property, before making off with a small sum of money.

The priest was able to escape from the bathroom by climbing out the window. He was later taken to hospital to be treated for facial injuries.

The PSNI said that inquiries are ongoing and police are asking anyone who was in the area and who may have noticed any suspicious activity or who has any information to contact CID in Newry on 0845 600 8000.
