Man arrested over racially aggravated assault on Man City footballer

The 23-year-old was reportedly kicked and racially abused as he arrived at the training ground to prepare for Saturday’s match.

POLICE IN MANCHESTER have arrested a man on suspicion of racially aggravated assault of Manchester City footballer Raheen Sterling.

23-year-old Sterling was reportedly kicked and racially abused as he arrived at City’s Etihad Campus on Saturday morning for his team’s 4-1 win over Tottenham.

Yesterday police said the incident was being treated as a hate crime. Detective Chief Inspector Paul Walker today confirmed a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation.

“Racism will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester and has no place in civilised society,” he said. Walker said police take every report seriously and encouraged members of the public to make them aware of any similar incidents.
