Real IRA suspects arrested in Portugal over 'arms trafficking'

Guns and ammunition were seized as police swooped on the pair, according to reports.

TWO IRISH MEN have been arrested over suspected terrorist activity in Portugal.

The pair, aged 38 and 59, were taken into custody in the Algarve yesterday accused of links to the Real IRA. Ten guns and a supply of ammunition were seized in the police raid, according to the Sunday Mirror. A Portuguese man was also held.

The arrests were made under anti-terrorist legislation in connection with a “criminal organisation dedicated among other things to international arms trafficking”, the Guardian reports. It’s understood one man lived in the Algarve, while the other had just arrived on a flight from Belfast.
