Revenue seize €70,000 of cannabis in Drogheda

The seizure was a result of the controlled delivery of a package, originating in Nigeria, to a residential premises.

REVENUE SEIZED €70,000 of cannabis in Drogheda today.

As part of an intelligence-led operation involving Revenue’s Customs Service and An Garda Síochána, 3.5kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €70,000 was seized.

Revenue said that the seizure was a result of the controlled delivery of a package, originating in Nigeria, to a residential premises in Drogheda.

In the course of a follow-up search, a further 5kgs of cannabis was discovered.

A 42-year-old female and a 30-year-old male, both from Africa, were arrested and detained at Ashbourne Garda Station under the provisions of section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Both individuals have since been released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
