Paying your LPT or getting a tax refund? Revenue wants to remind you of something

The Revenue Commissioners has two deadlines coming up on 1 January and wants to make sure you remember them.

ACROSS THE COUNTRY, 1 January is a day of recovery, a day to get over the Christmas period.

However, the Revenue Commissioners are reminding people not to forget two deadlines that fall on New Year’s Day.

Firstly, the Local Property Tax deadline for payment with a cheque, through a service provider or by credit or debit card falls on the first of the year.

To date, revenue says, returns have been filed in respect for over a million properties with approximately 89 per cent doing so online. At the end of November, approximately €287m from the tax had been transferred to the Exchequer by Revenue.

In addition, Revenue says there are just over 60,000 items of correspondence in relation to the LPT that they are responding to.

Revenue also moved to remind people that there is a four-year deadline for claiming tax refunds.

They said that over €400 million had been refunded to PAYE workers in 2012.
