REVENUE OFFICERS SEIZED around 600,000 cigarettes and 11,000 litres of alcohol in Co Louth today.

The officers from Revenue’s Customs Service seized the cigarettes and alcohol in Rathgorey, Co Louth as part of an operation with an Garda SÃochána.
Customs officers uncovered 11 intermediate bulk containers of pure alcohol along with pumps and filtration equipment at a commercial shed in the rural area. They said the alcohol has a potential loss to the exchequer of approximately €416,000.

The 600,000 ’Brendal’ brand cigarettes, meanwhile, have a retail value of €282,000 and a potential loss to the exchequer of €211,000.
