Road tolls set to rise 10c in new year

Some M50 tolls will be raised, with charges on other motorways also likely to increase.

THE TOLLS PAID by drivers on Irish motorways are set to rise at the beginning of next year, with most likely to increase by 10c.

The National Roads Authority has confirmed that the M50 toll will rise by that amount, but only for goods vehicles. The charge for passenger cars will not change.

Tolls on Ireland’s other motorways are levied by private operators. These are set according to inflation, and will be permitted to increase by 10c from the new year. It’s expected that most of the operators will take the opportunity to raise tolls.

Among those which may be affected are the M1 at Drogheda, the M8 in Cork, the M6 in Galway and the N25 in Waterford. The Limerick tunnel will also be permitted to increase its toll, as will operators on the M3, M4 and M7.

However, charges for the Dublin Port Tunnel will remain unchanged. The M50 toll for goods vehicles decreased last year amid deflation in the economy, so will return to 2009 rates.
