Woman dies after being hit by car in Longford, male driver arrested

The 55-year-old died at the scene of the collision at 1.30am in Legan Village, Co. Longford.

A 55-YEAR-OLD woman has died after she was struck by a car in Legan Village, Co. Longford overnight.

A man in his 40s who was driving the car was arrested by gardaí at the scene and is currently being held at Longford garda station.

The collision happened at around 1.30am this morning when the woman was fatally injured after being struck by the car.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital at Mullingar.

A section of road is currently closed off in Legan Village to allow for examination by garda investigators.
