A CHECHEN MAN SOUGHT by Russian police for terrorism offences has posted a video online suggesting he was behind last month’s fatal bomb attack on Domodedovo airport outside Moscow.
Thirty-five people were killed in the suicide bomb attack on the arrivals terminal of the airport on 24 January.
Russia Today reports that there has been no official response to the video posted online by Chechen Doku Umarov.
Umarov does not specifically say he organised or was organising the attack, but authorities suspect that one of two other people who appear in Umarov’s video was the suicide bomber who targeted the airport. Investigators said earlier that they had identified the suicide bomber and believe he was a 20-year-old man from the North Caucausus.
Umarov, who has previously released videos claiming responsibility for the Moscow metro bombings, warned of a year of “blood and tears” if Russia continues to preside over states in the North Caucasus.
Shortly after the Domodedovo bombing, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was quoted by state news as saying there was no apparent link between Chechen militants and the attack.
