Backlash after Ryanair mocks Aer Lingus link to illegal immigrants

The controversial carrier tweeted a couple of posts which many deemed to be offensive.

LABOUR LEADER BRENDAN Howlin was one of many to hit out at Ryanair this evening after the carrier posted what has been described as “disgusting” jokes about illegal immigrants.

Three men were arrested at Dublin Airport this morning in relation to suspected trafficking of illegal immigrants

In two posts this evening, Ryanair made light of the fact that Aer Lingus had been caught up in controversy.

The third man arrested was a suspected illegal immigrant. Gardaí suspect the two Aer Lingus workers were facilitating this man’s entry into the state.

The arrests of the three men (aged 61, 56 and 28) took place at the airport last night in an operation carried out by the Garda Immigration Bureau (GNIB) assisted by the Garda Special Detective Unit (SDU).

Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll said gardaí are working to identify how many occasions in the past this may have taken place. He said gardaí investigating this incident were analysing a “considerable amount of data”.

Labour leader Brendan Howlin was quick to voice his contempt at the post and responded online by saying: “Unbelievably cheap shot from Ryanair. Low standards, made simple.”

Others felt similar.

A spokesman for Ryanair said: ”While everyone loves our low fares, our social media posts may not cater to all tastes.”
