A POPULAR DUBLIN restaurant has been temporarily closed and an investigation launched into an outbreak of food poisoning due to salmonella.
The kitchen of O’Dwyers Bar & Grill – also known as the Golf Links – on Strand Road in Portmarnock was served with a closure order on Friday.
The kitchen is operated by Flanreil Food Services Ltd, which is the company that has been served with the closure order.
The HSE confirmed to TheJournal.ie that it is investigating the outbreak in conjunction with the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).
An outbreak control team has been formed and the investigation is ongoing.
The FSAI said it is liaising with the HSE and that the investigation is in its early stages.
It said that while it is focusing on Flanreil Food Services, the source and cause of the outbreak has not yet been identified.
Salmonella is a bacterial disease of the intestinal tract.
It can be caused by eating uncooked or undercooked meat or eggs.
On its Facebook page, O’Dwyers Bar & Grill said that it had closed its kitchen due to a “health scare”.
TheJournal.ie sought comment from the restaurant general manager but was told they could not comment for legal reasons.
