'Safe conclusion' to four hour stand-off with man on balcony in Galway

The man in his 40s was talked down by negotiators and gardaí said there were no injuries in the incident.

GARDAÍ HAVE SAID this evening that an incident involving a man at an apartment block in Salthill, Galway, has been “brought to a safe conclusion” after a four and a half hour stand-off. The incident started at the apartment block at 5.30pm with gardaí and other emergency services attending.

Witnesses reported seeing a man on a balcony at the apartment block and emergency services attempting to talk him down to safety.

It is understood that garda negotiators managed to convince the man, who is in his 40s, to come down from the balcony. Gardaí confirmed the incident was concluded just before 10pm “with no injuries”.

However they said no further details would be provided “due to the nature of the incident”.

A media blackout was in place for the duration of the incident and gardaí thanked the media for their assistance and cooperation.
