AN UNLIKELY COALITION of independent senators, including one of the Taoiseach’s nominees, and Fianna Fáil were at the count result centre in Dublin Castle today to toast their successful campaign for a No vote.

As the returning officer announced the 51.7 per cent to 48.3 per cent result in favour of the No side there were cheers and very little sign of anyone from the government side, which of course wanted a Yes vote.

After the formalities were completed there were handshakes all round:
