Speaking after the win, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said, “Shane had a brilliant victory after a marvellous performance over the four days of this key golf tournament.

Shane is an enormously talented golfer and his win will generate a whole new loyal following for golf.

This is a wonderful day for the Lowry family. It is also a great day for Clara, Co Offaly and for his home club Esker Hills, who have nurtured such immense talent.

With such talented golfers as Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington, Graeme Mc Dowell and Paul McGinley leading on the world stage in what is definitely a golden era for Irish golf.
