American Airlines flight makes emergency landing at Shannon Airport

A flight from Chicago to London Heathrow made an emergency landing shortly after 1pm today following reports of a smell of smoke on board.

AN AMERICAN AIRLINES flight travelling from Chicago to London has made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport.

Flight AA98 was en route to London Heathrow when it landed at Shannon Airport shortly after 1pm this afternoon after reports of a smell of smoke in the cabin.

The flight is currently grounded at the airport while a maintenance crew carries out checks to isolate the source of the smell.

A spokesman for the airline describe the measure as “purely precautionary”.

It is hoped the flight can resume its journey to Heathrow  later today.
