14-year-old shot in head at US school

The teenager was shot and a teacher was injured at the school in Atlanta, Georgia.

A 14-YEAR-OLD STUDENT has been shot in the head at a school in Atlanta, Georgia.

Local television station 11 Alive said that the victim at Price Middle School in southeast Atlanta was a girl. One other person, who is believed to be a teacher, was also injured during the shooting, which happened at around 1.50pm local time (6.50pm GMT).

Both are being treated at a nearby hospital. The teenager is reported to be alert and conscious.

One suspect is in custody after the shooting, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Aerial news footage showed large numbers of police at the scene.

Students are still being held in the school while police investigate the circumstances around the incident.

A news conference is to be held shortly by Atlanta Public Schools and the Atlanta Police Department.
