Shot fired in Dublin after man points fake gun at gardaí

A man in his 20s has been arrested after the standoff in Coolock.

ARMED GARDAÍ FIRED a shot during a standoff with an apparently armed man in the early hours of this morning.

The man was arrested and what turned out to be a replica firearm was recovered following the incident in Coolock.

At around 2.30am, gardai attended the scene at Greencastle Road.

A man in his 20s threatened gardaí and members of the public at gun point.

The area was sealed off and following a stand off the man was arrested and the fake gun recovered.

During the standoff, armed gardaí fired a shot, but nobody was injured. As is procedure in cases where shots are fired, the Garda Ombudsman has been notified.

The man is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939, at Coolock Garda Station. The scene is preserved for a technical examination and the investigation is ongoing.
