Spanish fishing vessel detained by naval service off Cork

The operation is in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.

A SPANISH-REGISTERED TRAWLER has been detained off the coast of Cork.

The Naval Service said this morning that the operation was in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.

It will be handed over to gardaí later today for further investigation.

The vessel is currently being held 100 nautical miles south of Union Hall, and will be escorted to shore by the LÉ Niamh.

This is the fourth incident so far this year in which a ship has been detained by the Defence Forces.

Out of 169 vessels boarded, 17 warnings have been issued.
