PARENTS IN IRELAND have a legal right to withdraw their children from religious lessons and sacramental preparation.
But the principal of Castletroy College in Limerick last week denied a parent’s request that his daughter be exempted from studying religion, RTÉ reports.
Principal Padraig Flanagan told the broadcaster that he had explained to other parents with similar requests that the subject was for “all faiths and none”.
However, the issue is expected to be considered this evening by the board of the school, whose joint patron is the Catholic bishop of Limerick.
