GOOD EVENING

The 5 at 5 5 stories, 5 minutes, 5 o’clock…

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things we think you should know before you head out the door…

1. #TWO MILE VEGAS Plans to build a new ‘super-casino’ at Twomileborris in Co Tipperary have been blocked by the government as part of its move to overhaul gambling laws in Ireland. The development, which included a full-size replica of the White House, is now unlikely to go ahead.

2. #RACE FOR THE CLLRS David Norris and Dana Rosemary Scallon are making last-minute pleas to county councils to nominate them as they look to secure a place on the ballot paper for the presidential election next month. There has been a flurry of activity amongst the candidates and councillors today. Here’s what’s happening.

3. #COWPAT GATE Farmers in Cork have been threatened with legal action by the county council which has told them they must clean up the mess left by their cows. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the local farmers are not pleased.

4. #MEXICO Thirty-five bodies were dumped beneath an overpass in the Mexican city of Boca del Rio leaving motorists horrified as they posted Twitter messages and pictures warning people to stay away from the area. The incident has been linked to the country’s ongoing and brutal drugs war.

5. #CARTOONS Have you seen these cartoons? Political cartoonist Donal Casey is appealing for information regarding the whereabouts of 25 original A3 illustrations which went missing on a train from Dublin to Athlone yesterday.
