Tánaiste meets with Bulgarian Foreign Minister in Dublin

Eamon Gilmore discussed a range of issues with Nickolay Mladenov, who is making his first official visit to Ireland.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore this evening met with the Foreign Minister of Bulgaria in Iveagh House in Dublin.

This is the first official visit by Nickolay Mladenov to Ireland.

The ministers discussed a range of EU, international and bilateral issues, and Mladenov also raised the issue of transitional arrangements for allowing Bulgarians access to the Irish labour market, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking after the meeting, Gilmore spoke of the “excellent bilateral relations” Ireland has with Bulgaria:

“At today’s meeting we discussed key issues on the EU agenda, in particular, the current economic situation in Europe,” said the Tánaiste. “We also discussed the situation in the Western Balkans”.

Mladenov is due to visit Trinity College in his visit to Dublin to meet with Bulgarian students who are attending the university. He will also address the Institute for International and European Affairs.
