Knife pulled on taxi driver in early morning attack

The two men picked up a cab at a taxi office — but turned on the driver as they reached their destination.

POLICE IN WEST Belfast are appealing for information over a car-jacking that occurred in the early hours of the morning.

A taxi-driver had a knife pulled on him in the course of the incident. Cash and a mobile phone were also stolen.

Two young men picked up a cab at a taxi office on the Falls Road at around 5.20am, according to the PSNI.

They asked to be taken to the Lower Cupar Street area, where they then drew knives on the driver.

The driver was forced out of the car, and the car-jackers drove off. The vehicle was later found abandoned in the St Peters Court area.

“I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to contact Woodbourne Police Station on the non emergency number 101,” Inspector George Mercer said.

“If someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
