TCD fifteenth in the world when it comes to maths

Irish universities have fared very well in maths and engineering…

TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN has been named 15th in the world when it comes to mathematics, according to a new list of global university rankings.

The QS research has examined academic reputation, employer feedback and citations in academic papers in order to produce a league table of the top performers in 26 disciplines.

Trinity joins the likes of Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Yale and Caltech in the top 15 for maths.

The Irish Independent reports that five Irish universities – Trinity, UCD, UCC, NUI Galway and DIT – all feature in the top 200 for electrical engineering, while The Irish Times reports that Irish institutions featured among the top 200 for 24 or the 26 disciplines examined.

The top five universities in the world are currently listed as:

  1. University of Cambridge
  2. Harvard University
  3. Yale University
  4. UCL (University College London)
  5. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Trinity College Dublin is ranked 52nd in the world for 2010. UCD is at number 114, while UCC is ranked 184th.
