Teenagers arrested over Fine Gael website hack released without charge

Two teenagers were arrested yesterday in connection with the hacking of Fine Gael’s website last January.

THE TWO TEENAGERS arrested in connection with the hacking of Fine Gael’s website earlier this year have been released without charge.

Gardaí have confirmed that the two teenagers, aged in their late teens, have been released without charge and that their investigation continues.

The party’s election-focused website was launched in January asking users to ‘join the conversation’ and submit ideas for the party to tackle if it were in government.

In the hacking attack, the new site was replaced with a holding page marked ‘Anonymous’. The hacked page said that the site was censoring visitors.

Fine Gael subsequently said that the personal data of around 2,000 people who had registered to comment on the site had been compromised in the attack.
