The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door…

1. #MORTGAGES: The average Irish mortgage is now in arrears by €1,453 – with more than 70,000 homeowners at least three months behind on their payments. The Central Bank figures show a significant increase on last year.

2. #HOUSEHOLD CHARGE: Some 93 per cent of homes are yet to pay the Government’s household charge, over half way through the three-month payment window before penalties start being applied.

3. #WULFF: The German president Christian Wulff has been forced to resign in a corruption scandal which saw details of a dubious home loan emerge alongside an apparent attempt to blackmail a tabloid newspaper.

4. #SUN ON SUNDAY: Seven months after the demise of the News of the World, a new Sunday newspaper is on the way. News International owner Rupert Murdoch today told staff that the ‘Sun on Sunday’ paper would be launched “very soon”.

5. #NO KIDDING: Goats have accents. Yes, accents. At least according to researchers. And to celebrate, here’s our weekly Friday slideshow. Enjoy!
