1. #QUINN: The bankrupt former billionaire Seán Quinn will spend the next nine weeks in jail for contempt of court, after Justice Elizabeth Dunne sentenced him at a hearing this morning. The sentence refers to the contempt of court findings against the 66-year-old businessman at the court in June of this year after the former Anglo Irish Bank claimed that Quinn and members his family had asset-stripped their property portfolio in Europe to put funds beyond its reach.

2. #DROGHEDA: The Garda Siochána Ombudsman Commission is investigating the death of a man in Drogheda early this morning. The case was referred to the Garda Ombudsman because of interaction between gardaí and the deceased prior to the discovery of his body. The Garda Ombudsman is looking for anyone who saw a Silver Santa Fe jeep parked on the North Strand between the hours of 5am and 7am to contact it at 1890 600 800.

3. #ULSTER BANK: Ulster Bank has said  the costs of an IT failure at the bank have reached €103 million in total, a figure which could increase in the future. The bank said this provision covers all operational costs associated with the incident, as well as redress of €52m to 750,000 customers across the island of Ireland.

4. #SEAN ÓG: A year on from his recall to the Cork squad, Rebel legend Sean Óg Ó hAilpín has retired from inter-county hurling and declared that “this time it’s for good.” Ó hAilpín, 35, announced his decision this afternoon, bringing an end to a senior career which spanned 16 years in total including a brief period in exile under former manager Denis Walsh – saying: “As I close this chapter of my life, I look forward with enthusiasm to the new challenges and opportunities I may encounter.”

5. #RIDLEY: Oscar-nominated director and producer Ridley Scott is to shoot six low-budget films in Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen has announced. Scott and Scott Free London are to partner with Orchard Media and Focus Features International for the project, which will see Scott executive produce and present six low-budget genre films over three years.
