1.#ANGLO: Two former executives of Anglo Irish Bank have been charged with €8 million worth of “fraudulent trading”. Willie McAteer and Pat Whelan were arrested this morning and appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice.

2.#RESCUE: Up to 97 people were thrown into the water by a “freak wave” at a sailing competition in County Down. There have been no reports of serious injuries.

3.#RIOTS: Chaos erupted in a suburb of the US city of St Louis after an unarmed black man was shot by police. 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot a number of times by an officer, igniting racial tensions.

4.#WATER: Irish Water says that a report stating that its operating costs are higher than other utilities around Europe is “unfair”, saying that it has considerable start-up costs.

5.#EVACUATION: An Irish oil firm has evacuated non-essential staff from the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq as fighting intensifies. Petroceltic says that the move is purely precautionary.
