1. #PROMISSORY NOTE: The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has admitted that Ireland faces challenges in securing an agreement with the European Central Bank on a deal to avert the annual payment of over €3.06 billion under the promissory note arrangement – but says he is remains “confident” that an agreement will nevertheless be reached by March.
2. #LONGFORD: One man has been killed and another four injured following a wall collapse at a retail unit in Longford. It is understood that the emergency services from Tullamore, Athlone and Mullingar are on the scene of the incident, at the Connacht Gold retail unit on the Athlone Road, and the area is now sealed off.
3. #WATER CHARGES: Dublin City Council manager John Tierney has been appointed as the new head of the semi-state agency that will soon be responsible for the rolling out of water meters and water charges across the country. Bord Gáis, which is overseeing the establishment of the new water agency, said this afternoon that Tierney will take up his new post as managing director of Irish Water (or Uisce Éireann) in April for an initial three-year term.
4. #GARDA DEATH: The Dáil and Seanad will adjourn for several hours tomorrow to allow Ministers, TDs and senators to attend the funeral of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe who was shot dead at the scene of a robbery in Louth last Friday night. Detective Garda Donohoe’s funeral is due to take place tomorrow at 12.30pm at St Joseph’s Redemtorist Church in Dundalk before he is laid to rest at Lordship cemetery.
5. #CENTRAL BANK: The Central Bank of Ireland has revised downwards its forecast for the country’s economic recovery in its first Quarterly Bulletin for 2013 – saying that, while GDP growth is expected to rise to 1.3 per cent in 2013, this represents a downward revision of 0.4 per cent
to the previous forecast. GNP growth is projected to moderate to 0.5 per cent this year.
