THINGS WE LEARNED:

#GOOD NEWS: Rejoice – figures show the government’s income tax figures are ahead of target. Meanwhile Standard & Poor’s said Ireland’s return to the bond market is promising but won’t be enough to raise our credit rating. Boo.

#PENALTY POINTS: Motorists face a new range of penalty points for not wearing their seatbelt or ensuring others are safely restrained. The new measures come into effect at midnight tonight so buckle up over your bank holiday weekend.

#DIABETES: A new report shows Ireland could be headed for a global epidemic of obesity and diabetes. The number of people in Ireland living with diabetes is expected to rise by 30 percent over the ten years to 2020.

#RTÉ DEFICIT: Bad news for the national broadcaster, RTÉ’s deficit rose to €16.8 million last year according to its annual report.

#LONDON 2012: Up today were our boxing, kayaking and swimming athletes. TheScore.ie’s live blog will keep you up to date.

THINGS WE LOVED:

THINGS WE SHARED:

  • If you’re thinking of investing in the Nexus 7, you might want to clear your schedule just to get the thing out of its box. Here’s a lovely montage of frustrated Nexus owners.
  • Snoop Dog changed his name to ‘Snoop Lion’ earlier this week. To mark the occasion, someone drew this masterpiece.
  • It’s Olympics fever and we’re all enjoying watching our fellow humans prove just how incredible we can be with a bit of hard work and determination. But Animal Planet have reminded us that some furry little friends are hot on our tails.
