The three people killed in this morning's tragic car accident in Laois have been named

The incident took place at roughly 3am, around three miles outside Rathdowney.

GARDAÍ HAVE NAMED the three people killed in today’s car accident in Co Laois.

They are 35-year-old Angela Kelly, 20-year-old Orla Curry, and 20-year-old Martin Brophy.

All three were killed when the car they were travelling in hit a road-sign at Middlemount on the Rathdowney to Abbeyleix road. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

A second male (16) received non-life threatening injuries. He is being treated at Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

Gardaí said the remains of the deceased have been removed to Portlaoise Hospital.

The road was closed for a forensic examination but has since reopened.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have been on the Rathdowney to Abbeyleix Road between 2.30am and 3am this morning to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 8674100, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
