less peaks

They've changed the shape of Toblerones and people are not happy

But we await confirmation on whether it will affect Irish ones.

THERE ARE NOT too many certainties in life, but one constant was always the mountain-like peaks of the massive Toblerone bar.

But now even that’s changed.

As The BBC report this morning, Toblerones in the UK have been fundamentally altered:

They’ve increased the gap in between the peaks – and this is what it looks like

Toblerone released a statement confirming the UK switch in October, saying:

Like many other companies, we are experiencing higher costs for numerous ingredients. We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products.

And that it’s all down to weight:

The 400g is now 360g and the 170g is now 150g.

But what about Ireland?

We have contacted Toblerone here to officially confirm, but Tesco Ireland has verified to DailyEdge.ie that they are indeed stocking the new-fangled bars across Ireland – in Milk, Dark, White and Fruit & Nut varieties.

But a Mondelez spokesperson didn’t say whether it was only impacting on the UK bars:

However, she was unable to clarify whether the change in shape affected only bars sold in the UK and not the rest of Europe.

The Kev’s Snack Reviews blog got its hands on the new bar – calling the review a “weird block change”:

I was very surprised when I bought this bar in Tesco recently, I don’t often buy Toblerone but on this occasion I fancied a change. I’d heard the rumours that Mondelez were reducing the size, but I never thought they’d do it in such a ridiculous way.

The change has “upset fans”

We await confirmation on the fate of the Irish Toblerones.
