"Thoughts and prayers" with Red Cow hotel owner injured in Spain

He was believed to have been attending a wedding when the incident occurred.

IRISH HOTELIER TOM Moran is in hospital in Spain following an accident.

The businessman was said to have been attending a wedding in Marbella when he accidentally fell and was injured.

The Limerick Leader says he has been put in an induced coma and that family members are at his bedside at the hospital. Moran is originally from Athea in Limerick.

Frances Foley, a Fianna Fáil councillor in Limerick, said that Moran would be “very well known in the area”.

“It’s an awful shock,” he told TheJournal.ie.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom, we hope he will make a full recovery.

Though the news broke over the past day, Foley said he believed Moran had been injured a number of weeks ago.

“It happened about two and a half weeks ago, I understand,” he said. “I hadn’t heard it until yesterday myself. He was attending a wedding, [publican] Charlie Chawke’s daughter’s wedding when he slipped [on] marble.”

He noted that GSOC Commissioner Kieran Fitzgerald, who was also injured in Spain in a separate incident last week, is from Glin, a neighbouring town to Moran’s hometown of Athea.

Sinn Féin councillor Ciara McMahon, who is from Athea, said: “Tommy is a fantastic man. He is a credit to the parish of Athea and is held in the highest of esteem in Athea. He was always a gentleman and absolutely fantastic to deal with on anything.”

She added:

Tommy is a fantastic Limerick man and great to the parish of Athea and great to Limerick, especially to sport. I think myself and all the people of Athea are wishing him every help and hope that everything works out and that he gets his health back.

St Munchin’s school also offered their wishes for a fast recovery to Tom Moran:
