ALMOST 70% of Irish workers have admitted to stealing from their workplace according to a new survey. The survey of 1,431 workers from both the north and south showed that 58% of employees admitted to the theft of office supplies petty cash and even their co-workers lunches.

The most popular items stolen included pens, post-its and stamped envelopes but the survey also reports that laptops, phones and company files were also stolen by employees. The most worrying finding of the survey was that over 77% felt there were nothing wrong with what they had done.

Alan Price, managing director of the employment law firm Peninsula Ireland, who carried out the survey reminded employees that they can be sacked for stealing of any kind.
