THE GREEN PARTY has issued a brief statement in which it said its TDs and Senators had discussed Brian Cowen’s decision to resign as leader of Fianna Fail, but to remain as Taoiseach. The party will “meet tomorrow morning to consider the situation”, the statement said.

AN TAOISEACH, BRIAN COWEN, is to make a media statement at 2pm this afternoon at the Merrion Hotel in Dublin. The government press office hasn’t offered any indication about what the statement will relate to, but given the Taoiseach’s current precarious future, it may be a big announcement.
