TODAY IS ASH Wednesday, which marks the start of the 40-day Lenten period. Once upon a time, in predominately Catholic Ireland, the tradition of “giving up” some luxury or indulgence from now until Easter Sunday was strictly observed.
Is that a tradition you still adhere to? Will you still be ‘giving up’ something for the 40 days of Lent?
