TWO MORE FIANNA FÁIL TDs have confirmed they will not contest the general election. Dublin North West TD Noel Ahern was first elected to the Dáil in 1992 and is a brother of former Taoseach Bertie Ahern. Ned O’Keeffe, TD for Cork East, was elected to the Dáil in 1982. Earlier tonight, Labour, Fine Gael and the Green Party agreed a timetable with the government for passing the Finance Bill this weekend, meaning the election could now be held as soon as 25 February.

RTÉ also reports that at this afternoon’s meeting of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party, O’Keeffe likened the government’s NAMA strategy to that of a “third world” and said the taxpayer had bought a “pig in a poke”.
