Almost half the country watched the Toy Show

For a minute, anyway.

RTÉ SAYS THAT almost half the country watched at least a minute of the Late Late Toy Show.

The broadcaster has released Nielsen figures for the show, which say that an average of 1.36 million viewers tuned in to watch the entire show.

The show had an overall reach of 1.94 million, meaning that almost half the country watched at least a minute of the show. It achieved a share of 73% of the country’s television sets.

Based on overnight figures this year’s Late Late Toy Show has proved even more popular than last year’s, which was watched by an average of 1.357 million viewers and achieved a share of 71%.

There were more than 91,000 tweets sent on the night using the #LateLateToyShow hashtag alone and the volume of tweets being sent peaked at 620 per minute.

An average of 172,000 people watched the entire show when it was repeated on RTÉ One on Sunday.

Host Ryan Tubridy said the show’s success was down to a number of factors.

After the success of last year, I really didn’t think it could be bettered. As we got closer to the day I felt the weight of great expectation, but a combination of stellar children, Trojan teamwork behind the scenes, and some magic in the air helped make it a great night for everyone.
