Missing

Do you know this man? Footage shows last known movements of missing Trevor Deely

Trevor’s sister Michele said today it would “mean the world” to her family to get answers to the questions they have been asking for over 16 years.

TODAY GARDAÍ RELEASED enhanced CCTV footage showing the last known sighting of missing man Trevor Deely, who disappeared in December 2000.

The footage from three different cameras shows a man speaking to Deely in the early hours of the morning he went missing. It also appears to show this same man following the 22-year-old after he left his office, around a half an hour after their brief conversation.

This man has never come forward in the 16 years Trevor has been missing and Detective Superintendent Peter O’Boyle and Detective Inspector Paul Costello today gave a detailed breakdown of what they have learned from this CCTV footage, which was enhanced recently by a firm in the UK.

The video above first shows a man dressed in dark clothing standing at a pillar at 3.05am.

“It was a wet night. I’m not sure what type of cover he was getting there at the time but he waits there for approximately 34 minutes”, Costello said.

In the above video, the footage skips forward and at 03.34.15, Trevor first appears at the top lefthand corner and walks by the man, who has now moved out from the pillar.

He was talking on the phone to a colleague inside the Bank of Ireland Asset Management building, where he was going to pick up an umbrella.

The next view is from the bank gate of the BOI building, around 17 seconds later. A man in dark clothing can again be seen standing in beside the gate.

“We’re satisfied that individual there is the same individual that was waiting at the pillar.”

Trevor walks up to the gate and can be seen having a brief conversation with the man. He then lifts up the latch of the gate, as the man turns his back to him, and enters, closing the gate behind him.

“This man disappears from shot he doesn’t go back to where he had been previously – we don’t know where he went to,” O’Boyle told reporters today.

Inside, he had a coffee with his colleague and 27 minutes later he leaves with an umbrella in his hand.

He zips his coat up, puts up the umbrella and heads left towards Baggot Street Bridge.

The next footage has been played over and over for the last 16 years – but now it is clearer.

“We are satisfied that we can now identify that umbrella as being an ACC umbrella and we are satisfied that is the umbrella Trevor had on the night,” Costello said.

34 seconds after Trevor passes this camera, we see a man in dark clothing.

“We believe it’s the same individual at the back gate.”

Suspicious

“It would appear, I suppose you look at that footage and the actions of this individual I suppose would have to be regarded as being suspicious. He’s standing outside of the bank centre for approximately a half an hour before Trevor Deely arrives,” Detective Superintendent O’Boyle said.

It’s a particularly bad night, it’s raining and what explanation is there for him to be standing there? He doesn’t move until Trevor comes into shot and then he follows Trevor to the gate of the bank premises where he engages very briefly with Trevor in conversation.

He said gardaí are “anxious” to talk to this man.

Trevor’s sister Michele Deely also made an appeal today for this person, or any person who “knows what happened next” to come forward.

As a family, we have never believed that people can disappear into thin air. We know someone knows something and we ask that you come forward to put an end to this relentless nightmare. Many people over the last 16 years have questioned why we continue to search for Trevor. The answer is simple if you knew Trevor. We can sum it up by saying if situation was reversed, he would never give up on us

“Please help us find Trevor, please come forward,” she said.

“We want to bring Trevor home, this would mean the world to us.”

A private donor who wishes to remain anonymous is prepared to offer a reward of up to €100,000 for information that might prove critical in resolving the case.

If this man, anyone who knows him or any person has information about Trevor’s disappearance wants to come forward, you can do so by calling Crimestoppers on 1800 25 00 25.
