I presume that he also had his permit in place to go through the city centre? If you have an oversized load the onus is on the driver to know the overal height of the vehicle and the bridges that might be on the route. There’s no shortage of signage on the approaches to that bridge.

Shit happens ! Most mistakes are the result of a lack of proper signage , road markings etc! The roundabout at the end if the M3 being a classic. If there is an artic truck in the slow lane you can’t see the overly wordy sign that tells you the motorway is ending and you hit a roundabout at 70 . Every week there’s are car stuck on it. Not long til there’s a bad smash. It’s Ireland !

It reminds me of a story Richard Harris used to tell , when he was 17 or 18 his auld fella sent him to Dublin to deliver a load of flour ( or collect not sure ) anyway Richard being Richard got on the piss so on the way back to limerick took the back roads and got the truck stuck under a bridge . When the Garda turned up and asked him what happened he told them ” I just bought this bridge above in Dublin and I’m bringing it down to limerick ” haha classic .

Or the lack of sequence in road signage . Every second junction they don’t bother with a sign which leads to stalling and stopping etc.

People are so stupid

Lower the roads under all rail bridges – this happens too often. There are plenty of signs – it may be that the people driving these vehicles are not literate or familiar with elementary rules of the road.

Saw that this happened in Carrick on Suir a few weeks ago, nearly tore the bridge out of it, can’t find the link to it though

Sorry for the ignorance but its not the Garda that will free the truck from the under the bridge all they will do is divert traffic it will b the job of the fire brigade.
